Thanks to our friends at SCAD Serve and Art in the Paint, we have the opportunity to get a second court resurfaced and covered in a mural in Adair Park 2. This time, SCAD Serve has worked with their alum and our neighbor, Joe Veazey, to create a playful and energetic work of art for the uncovered half-court in Adair Park 2. Please see the feedback link and proposed design below. The design will be voted on at the next APT meeting (September 6) where this feedback will be shared.
Please join us as we install our flower beds, steps, educational signage and finish installing our park! This is the first City of Atlanta park that will serve as a community gathering space focused on learning about the Muscogee Nation who are the original stewards of the land upon which Atlanta was built. Join us for learning and some outdoor volunteer work! The workdays will take place on Friday, August 19th and Saturday, September 3rd both from 9AM – 11AM. FYI: We have a big group on the 19th, but still need more volunteers for the 3rd.
**You must pre-register and sign the waiver to join these workdays**
The SCAD Serve and Art in the Paint team has finished the mural on the full court in Adair Park I. They also painted the new boulders to match – which also serve to protect the space from folks driving into the park without permit. The basketball goals will be installed within the next week.
Thanks to a generous donation, we may also be able to connect the court and pavilion to the rest of the park by adding ADA accessible sidewalks. Please stay tuned!
Thank you to SCAD Serve, Art in the Paint, artist Alex Waggoner, and our many volunteers and neighbors who came out to make this project a reality!
UPDATE: Art in the Paint is in the process of replacing the basketball hoops to meet Parks and Recreation standards. We apologize for the inconvenience – they will be put in soon!
You may have seen this week that work began on the project to renovate Brookline Triangle Park. Contractors set the frames for the new sidewalks and plaza which will anchor the site and poured the concrete. Next step will be to add in the benches, flower beds, re-establish little library and put in the signs with information on Muscogee Nation and their history as the ancestral stewards of these lands. Stay tuned for updates!
Please join neighbors as we cleanup trash on Murphy Ave between RDA and Brookline. This cleanup is being generously led by Jordan Daniell. Trash bags, gloves, snacks etc. will be provided. Event on Facebook.
